Volunteering and code of conduct

Clear roles, respectful conduct and support for people giving their time.

Joining the team

The volunteer form is an expression of interest. Before a placement, we explain the tasks, time commitment, supervisor, training and any checks appropriate to the role. Only an authorised programme lead can confirm a placement.

Volunteers should accept tasks they are prepared and authorised to carry out, and ask for support when a task is unclear or beyond their experience. Discuss any access or support needs with the supervisor.

How we work together

Treat people fairly, listen respectfully, follow safety instructions and protect privacy. Use personal information only for the agreed task and keep it in approved channels. Follow the safeguarding policy and raise concerns promptly.

Seek permission before taking or sharing images. Do not promise assistance, spend funds, collect money, create private arrangements with participants or speak publicly for the organisation without authorisation. Report a conflict of interest to your supervisor.

Support, expenses and leaving

Your programme supervisor is the first contact for tasks and support. Call +44 7360 093019 if that route is unsuitable. Safeguarding concerns go to Jato Joseph; complaints go to Lisa Mutinhiri, with Tallyn Mckale as the alternative escalation route.

Expenses require agreement before they are incurred; the charity does not promise reimbursement for unapproved spending. Tell your supervisor if you need to pause or leave a role so activities and access can be handed over safely. Closed application records and archived staff profiles follow the privacy notice’s retention process.
